Avis Rent A Car has extended its Direct Connect Availability capability in the Sabre system to its worldwide operations. This upgrade gives travel agents around the world direct access to the Avis computer reservations system, and allows them to retrieve real-time rate and availability information on Avis' worldwide inventory.
Direct Connect Availability, the highest level of connectivity in the Sabre system, allows travel counselors to shop a wider variety of rates and products - including limited availability rates, one-way rates and corporate rate programs - all in a simple one-step procedure. Previously, Avis used this connectivity level in North and South America and in Australia and New Zealand. By expanding worldwide in Sabre, Avis gives travel agents immediate access to more than 105,000 Avis rental cars in Europe, the Middle East, Asia and Africa - putting a total fleet of more than 305,000 vehicles at their fingertips.
"By upgrading in the Sabre system and offering this seamless connectivity to travel agents on a global scale, Sabre and Avis Rent A Car can streamline the booking and selling process for our customers," said John Stow, senior vice president of electronic travel distribution sales and service for Sabre. "Travel agents can in turn offer rates and availability tailored to the individual traveler. Car reservations are an important task for travel agents. Anytime Sabre can better serve the travel agents, travelers benefit."
"Our innovative technology allowed Avis to become the first car company to participate in Sabre's Direct Connect Availability," said Barbara Riggers, manager of system development and planning for Avis. "This product has been expanded to offer an even wider array of products that specifically meet the traveler's needs. Travel agents receive the same great rates and promotions that are offered by the Avis reservations agent."
