Singapore's Annual For Art's Sake
|Singapore's annual for Art's sake! returns in September with a full agenda of music and dance, theatre, visual arts and cultural events. For the first time, Mastercard and The Singapore Visitors Card Pte Ltd are issuing a special Visitor Card, designed to build attendance from overseas markets to for Arts sake! The Visitor Card is issued to those tourists who buy arts packages to Singapore from travel agencies in their home countries.|
Leading this year's international line up is Miss Saigon, Cameron Mackintosh's successful stage musical, now playing at the Kallang Theatre until 30 September. Equally exciting is Singapore's first ever exhibition of the world renowned Fabulous Fabergé collection of rare and priceless Imperial Easter Eggs. Part of the FORBES Magazine Collection from New York, this will be showcased at the Singapore Art Museum between 25 September and 25 November. The electrifying World Of Music, Art And Dance (WOMAD) plays again in its three-day reign to launch for Art's sake! from 31 August to 2 September at Fort Canning Park. Last year's WOMAD attracted a record audience of 14,000.
This year, the organisers are aiming to topple this record, and have set a cap of 16,000 tickets to go on sale. Another record setter this year is ARTSingapore, the world's most prestigious contemporary Asian art fair. Works from England, Hong Kong, Japan, Thailand, Korea and Singapore will go on show from 29 September to 3 October at the Singapore International Convention and Exhibition Centre (SICEC). Organisers are hoping to double last year's record sale of $500,000 and a turn out of over 15,000 art aficionados.
Singapore Tourism Board's Director, Events Marketing, Mr Kevin Leong said: "Over the last two years, for Art's sake! has helped to establish Singapore as a Global City of the Arts. This year we expect even greater success, given the strong line up of events. I am delighted to hear that local travel agencies have been packaging and selling anchor events such as Miss Saigon and WOMAD SINGAPORE. These world-class shows have strong international and regional appeal".
Supported by the Singapore Tourism Board (STB), for Art's sake! is now into its third year. It is one of three major arts events in the calendar year which has added to the variety of activities to Live it up in Singapore! for Art's sake! will go online with its own website live from 24 August.
