Hong Kong Tourism Board (HKTB) Shares 2009/10 Strategies & Work Plan

The annual "Tourism Overview" organised by the Hong Kong Tourism Board (HKTB) attracted (February 20) the participation of around 400 travel trade representatives. The objective of the event is to reinforce communication and strengthen collaboration with local travel trade partners.

During the occasion, Mr James Tien, Chairman of the HKTB and Mr Anthony Lau, Executive Director of the HKTB, shared the Board's 2009 strategic directions and work plan. In addition, Miss Margaret Fong, Commissioner for Tourism, delivered a speech about the SAR Government's visions and support for the tourism industry. Also attending the event were representatives of HKTB's worldwide offices, who shared the latest updates on their respective markets/regions.

HKTB Chairman Mr James Tien pointed out that according to a report released by the World Tourism Organization this January, under the impact of the financial turmoil, global tourism industry might experience stagnation or even negative growth of 1-2% in 2009. In his speech, he stressed the importance for the HKTB to strengthen communication and collaboration with travel trade partners while tapping new business opportunities, so as to lessen the impact of the downturn and ensure Hong Kong's tourism could make a head start when conditions improve. Facing the volatile market situation, the HKTB will quarterly review the industry performance, and adjust its marketing strategy and resource allocation whenever necessary.
