HKTB Chairman Mr James Tien pointed out that according to a report released by the World Tourism Organization this January, under the impact of the financial turmoil, global tourism industry might experience stagnation or even negative growth of 1-2% in 2009. In his speech, he stressed the importance for the HKTB to strengthen communication and collaboration with travel trade partners while tapping new business opportunities, so as to lessen the impact of the downturn and ensure Hong Kong's tourism could make a head start when conditions improve. Facing the volatile market situation, the HKTB will quarterly review the industry performance, and adjust its marketing strategy and resource allocation whenever necessary.
