MIAA Top Award Goes To Sydney Convention & Exhibition Centre
|The Sydney Convention & Exhibition Centre has won a major award for the second successive year at the national Meetings Industry Association of Australia's (MIAA) NSW Awards for Excellence, held at the ANA Harbour Grand Hotel last night.|
The Centre was named winner of the "Best Purpose Built Convention and Exhibition Centre" Award for Excellence.
"I am very pleased that the Centre has again been given this significant accolade," Mr Ton van Amerongen, General Manager of the Centre, said.
"We have not rested on our laurels. Indeed, our staff at all levels have worked extremely hard post Olympics, to ensure that the Centreís position as Australia's most desirable meetings and exhibition facility is retained, in what is an increasingly competitive marketplace."
With the most advanced technological facilities in Australia, the Sydney Convention & Exhibition Centre is winning more and more major computer and IT exhibitions and conferences. The alliance between the Centre and Davnet, the international provider of Internet Protocol (IP)-powered telecommunications services, is a "first" for the Australian convention and exhibition industry. Forward bookings also indicate solid interest from international medical conferences and exhibitions.
"With significant business already on our books, up to 2009, the Centre will generate revenue in the order of $854 million for the city of Sydney," Mr van Amerongen commented.
Judging criteria for the MIAA awards included an assessment of the entrant's business success in the past, the impact of marketing strategy and achievements, contribution to tourism industry expansion, staff development, training programs and the introduction of additional facilities/services.
