2013 To Showcase Culinary Excellence At The Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre

 The Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre's (the Centre) impressive culinary reputation once again takes centre stage, with the launch of 'Year of Culinary Excellence'. Year 2013 will provide guests with a gastronomic adventure that will set new standards and create a point of difference from its competitors.

Since opening in 2005, the Centre has worked consistently to elevate its culinary offerings to deliver a world-class dining experience clients will never forget. And in keeping with this commitment, the Centre's 'Year of Culinary Excellence' will be one of creative and colourful cuisine and culture.

With so much feasting in sight, the Centre's 'Year of Culinary Excellence' is poised to deliver a memorable experience for all its guests with year-round offerings like State-of-the-Art Banqueting, enhanced themed and 'special dietary' menus and greater healthy options. The Centre's 51-strong culinary team will also roll out a new cuisine promotion each quarter, starting with Chinese food in 'Modern Ching', followed by 'Contemporary Traditional Malay' cuisine and 'State-of-the-Art Buffets', and 'Indian Delights and Festive Occasions' in quarter four.

To kick-off the programme, the Centre unveiled the first culinary experience -- State-of-the-Art Banqueting -- at the recent Australia Day 2013 celebration. Comprising elements such as hanging pedestals and 'Chef Showmanship Stations', State-of-the-Art Banqueting presents a new layer to banqueting presentations, one that is visually tantalising and exciting. Citing 'Chef Showmanship Stations' as an example, the Centre's Executive Chef Richmond Lim explained that "each 'station' features our chefs showcasing their culinary skills 'live' to add a touch of colour and adventure to the occasion, at the same time intrigue and delight guests who may not have experienced anything like this before."

Continuing, Executive Chef Richmond said that with food being the 'soul' of any event and Malaysia, the melting pot of Asian cuisine in the region, the Centre has also expanded its themed menus to cater to the growing number of repeat clients who are constantly on the lookout for new and unique offerings to add variety to their dining experience. "We have now included all tastes of Asia with 'Greater China', 'Incredible India', 'Malaysia Truly Asia', 'Nyonya Heritage', 'Southeast Asia' and 'Amazing Thailand'."

The Centre has also expanded the 'Year of Culinary Excellence' to highlight the importance of healthy well-being and work/life balance. Its banqueting menus, Day Conference Packages (DCP), TenOnCall offerings and public catering outlets (West Wing Café & Park View Deck) will all deliver a wide selection of healthy choices.

Alternatively, for a healthy snack on the go, the Centre has enhanced its offerings to include a complimentary bowl of juicy fresh apples at the registration counter to kick start one's day. Last but not least, in line with the importance of healthy options and the growing number of requests for dishes that meet special dietary and nutritional needs, a group of the Centre's chefs underwent a course at the Sunway Medical Centre (SMC) to arm them with the technical knowhow to create and tailor 'special dietary menus'.

Eight years down the road, the Centre now has a strong reputation for its innovative menu creations and presentations that incorporate value-adds and enhancements for all types of events. And these efforts have been acknowledged with the receipt of such honours as the 'Dato Lau Foo Sun Excellence in Dining Award' from the Chaîne des Rôtisseurs Malaysia Chapter, a Silver medal at the 23rd IKA World Culinary Olympics 2012 and 'Best Book in the World for Food Professionals' at the Gourmand World Cookbook Awards 2012.
