Malaysia Tourism Minister Launches Visit Malaysia Year 2014 In Canada

 Malaysia's newly appointed Minister of Tourism and Culture, the Honorable Dato' Seri Mohamed Nazri Abdul Aziz, revealed plans for the Visit Malaysia Year 2014 campaign at the Hyatt Regency Hotel in Vancouver, Canada on October 10th, 2013.

In a press conference October 10, the Minister announced details of events taking place in Malaysia throughout 2014, and discussed the wide impact which Visit Malaysia Year 2014 is expected to have on Malaysia's tourism industry and economy.

Visit Malaysia Year 2014, is a global campaign that will be heavily promoted in key markets including Canada. The campaign aims to attract 28 million tourists to the country next year, with a target of 97,500 Canadian tourists.

In his address, the Minister announced the launch of the 'Know your Malaysia' Facebook sweepstakes that will give one lucky winner an opportunity to visit Malaysia with a free flight for two from Canada to Kuala Lumpur, the country's capital. He also unveiled the 'Buy and Win' Trade Incentive with Travelweek, a contest for travel agents competing for a chance to win a trip for two to Malaysia. The contests are part of an effort to grow online engagement and to inspire travel to Malaysia for both online consumers and travel agents.

The Minister also explained that Visit Malaysia Year 2014 will be based on four experiential themes which highlight the diverse attractions in Malaysia. These themes are: Heritage & Culture, Adventure & Nature, Wellness & Spa, and Island & Beaches.

The Minister's sales mission to Canada concluded with cultural performances and entertainment for the guests that included the Dance Cultural Troupe from Malaysia.
