MCI Guides The Marina Bay Sands & Venetian Macao To ISO20121 Event Sustainability Certification

 Under the guidance of MCI's sustainability services, two Las Vegas Sands properties in Asia have become the first integrated resorts in the world to receive the prestigious ISO20121 Event Sustainability Management System certification.

The Venetian Macao, at 10.5 million square feet (980,000 square metres) is the largest single structure hotel building in Asia and seventh-largest building in the world by floor area, while Marina Bay Sands is among the world's most expensive and complex buildings, costing over US$ 5.7 billion to build.

In August 2013, Las Vegas Sands (LVS) selected MCI as a strategic partner for the implementation of a new performance management solution across the two properties. Together, MCI and Las Vegas Sands identified ISO20121, an international standard designed by the International Organization for Standardization, as the framework to help continually improve sustainability and operational performance throughout the entire event management cycle.

To achieve the standard, MCI designed and developed an innovative event management system and worked with LVS' global and regional teams to integrate the ISO approach into the comprehensive Sands ECO360° Meetings Program and their daily operations. MCI also worked with the LVS team to design training for over 15,000 staff and improve the resorts' monitoring and reporting system.

In January 2014, after a remarkably short eight months, Marina Bay Sands became the first integrated resort in Southeast Asia to obtain the ISO20121 certification, with The Venetian Macau following suit in March 2014.
