Global Alliance Appoints Its First Chair

 The Global Alliance today announces the appointment of Ms Julie-May Ellingson, Chief Executive Officer of Durban International Convention Centre (ICC), as its new Chair.

Global Alliance is an international group of conference and exhibition centres that have joined forces to offer a seamless conference and event experience to international associations and event organisers whose events rotate around the world.

Global Alliance members include: The Durban International Convention Centre (South Africa); Adelaide Exhibition and Convention Centre (Australia); Centro Banamex (Mexico); Arena and Convention Centre Liverpool (United Kingdom); and Advantage BOSTON (United States of America).

Ms Ellingson will help to raise the profile of the alliance as a leading provider of high-quality convention centre services across multiple continents.

"Providing a detailed handover of a major international conference is a huge benefit to conference organisers, saving time and making for an altogether more professional start to their event. In addition to providing this seamless transition, Global Alliance members hold international venue accreditations and guarantee an international quality standard across their venues," says Ms Ellingson.

"This is an exciting time for Global Alliance as we further strengthen our offer to the MICE industry and I am honoured to be driving Global Alliance forward," adds Ms Ellingson.

Ms Ellingson joined the Durban ICC in 2011 having spent 10 years heading up the Strategic Projects Unit of eThekwini Municipality where she was responsible for all major infrastructural projects and all large scale national and international events hosted in the city of Durban. Over the past two years, Ms Ellingson has been fortunate to lead a dynamic ICC team in the delivery of over 800 events. These include: the prestigious 123rd Session of the International Olympic Organising Committee which was the first time the Olympic Committee had come to Africa; the United Nations Framework Climate Change Conference better known as COP17/CMP7, one of the largest conferences in the world with over 20,000 delegates; and the 5th BRICS Summit which saw some of the world's most powerful leaders being hosted in Durban.

Ms Ellingson is a Town and Regional Planner and Development Economist by profession and holds a Bachelor's Degree in Development Studies and Economics; and a Masters Degree in Town and Regional Planning from the University of KwaZulu-Natal.

Overall Ms Ellingson is recognised for her passion, hard work and commitment to getting things done. The Global Alliance is pleased to announce Ms Ellingson's appointment as Chair and look forward to taking the alliance from strength to strength.

Global Alliance will launch its new website and identity at an international breakfast event on 15th October 2013 at the IMEX America exhibition in Las Vegas. The event will take place at the Wynn Hotel 8 -- 9.30am.

Centro Banamex offers 185,000m2 of multi-purpose events space, with 25 convention rooms and 34,000 m2 of column-free exhibition halls that have hosted some of the most important international events and exhibitions from around the globe. Centro Banamex was also the first venue in America to be awarded the 'Earth Check' Silver Certification, demonstrating its commitment to the environment.

Liverpool, UK -- ACC Liverpool is a world-class European venue for large scale international events. Currently comprising BT Convention Centre and Echo Arena, ACC Liverpool is located on Liverpool's world famous Mersey waterfront, adjacent to the Grade 1 listed Albert Dock and UNESCO World heritage site at the heart of one of the most exciting cities in England. BT Convention Centre has a 1,350-seat auditorium, a 3,725sqm multi-purpose hall and 18 further meeting rooms.
