Airlines At Hong Kong Airport Upgrade To Latest SITA CUTE System
|SITA has been awarded a US$3.3 million contract by the CUTE Local User Board (CLUB) at Hong Kong International Airport (HKIA). The five-year project covers the installation of the latest version of SITA's, Java-based, Internet Protocol (IP) enabled Common Use Terminal Equipment (CUTE(r)) system. SITA's CUTE technology will support 304 check-in counters, further improving shared check-in and boarding facilities by increasing operational effectiveness and streamlining the passenger's journey through the terminal.|
Hong Kong International Airport currently handles over 32 million passengers per year and provides services to more than 50 airlines, all of which will be using SITA's CUTE. Usage of the airport's terminal space will be maximized, thereby reducing the need for additional dedicated check-in facilities and allowing the airport to maintain its high level of service to its users, without the need for new construction work.
Victor Ho, General Manager, Cathay Pacific at Hong Kong International Airport and Chairman of the HKIA CLUB said: "Hong Kong is one of Asia's most important aviation hubs so it is vital for us to maintain a high standard of passenger handling and customer service, which can only be achieved with state-of-the-art IT systems. Through the long term relationship we have with SITA, we know that the latest IP enabled version of CUTE will give us the flexibility and operational ability we need to meet the current and future needs of our customers."
The IP-based CUTE offers end-to-end IP connectivity from host to the airport desktop, providing airlines with access to their own systems on an industry open platform. Each CUTE workstation uses a pre-integrated browser and is connected over IP to support the individual airline needs.
Russell Robertson, Vice President, SITA Airport & Desktop Services commented, "We are extremely pleased to be able to continue our working relationship with the airline community at Hong Kong International Airport. Airports and airlines are always looking for IT systems to improve their operational efficiency and reduce their costs. With SITA's CUTE system they know that they are getting the market leading shared use systems which will provide them with the ability to make a real difference for passengers travelling through the airport while maintaining their budgets."
SITA's CUTE system offers end-to-end connectivity from host to the airport desktop, providing airlines with access to their own systems on an industry open platform. Each CUTE workstation uses a pre-integrated browser and is connected over IP to support the individual airline needs. SITA developed the first ever shared-use workstations, and some 285 customers at over 220 airport locations now use SITA's CUTE worldwide, handling over 580 million passengers annually.
