ICCA's 2014 Moises Shuster Award presented To Greg Ortale

Greg Ortale was announced by President Arnaldo Nardone as winner of ICCA's most prestigious award at the Closing Ceremony of the 53rd ICCA Congress in Antalya, Turkey, for his role in opening up the US domestic meetings market to international association meetings and supporting ICCA's US development.

Named for one of ICCA's founders, this award is ICCA's highest honour, and is given to an individual who has achieved great success during their career in the international meetings industry, but who has also made an important contribution towards ICCA's development and success.

Greg Ortale was one of the earliest supporters of ICCA in the USA during the 1980s and 90s, when most US destinations were only focused on domestic meetings, and continued to be a vital ambassador for ICCA whilst his career advanced as one of America's top destination marketing leaders, and as ICCA's own US profile and membership improved to its current healthy level, where a large majority of key international gateway cities are represented in ICCA membership.

ICCA President Arnaldo Nardone commented: "Our position in the USA today would be far weaker without the excellent work of Greg, making vital introductions to American decision-influencers, explaining the role of our association, and opening doors to new opportunities. This award is well-deserved indeed."

Greg Ortale was unable to fly to Antalya because of a major business commitment, but received the Award from ICCA CEO Martin Sirk and sent in a video message to ICCA delegates: "When ICCA informed me I was going to be the winner of this year's Moises Shuster Award, I was absolutely stunned. At the same time I was humbled by being in the company of so many great industry leaders and ICCA leaders. People like Paul Flackett, Arnaldo Nardone, Christian Mutschlechner and so many others who preceded me. I learned more from ICCA than I think I contributed, and I am grateful for that, it made me a better leader. I wish I as there at the ICCA Congress in Antalya as I am leaving the Destination Marketing business. Thank you so much for this great recognition as I step away."
