Abadía Retuerta LeDomaine, Spain Reopens March 2016

Abadía Retuerta LeDomaine, the exclusive hotel located in a restored 12th- century abbey surrounded by vineyards in Spain's Duero winegrowing region, will reopen in March highlighting its new world-class spa, additional eight guest rooms and new guest experiences.

"From the restoration to creating a hotel to dramatically expanding the facilities and amenities, in just a few years we have evolved Abadía Retuerta LeDomaine into one of Spain's most dramatic properties with an unprecedented combination of historic atmosphere and guest facilities and experiences," said Andres Araya, Managing Director.

When the historic hotel re-opens on March 1, 2016, following its annual two-and-a-half month closure during winter, LeDomaine will offer a starting room rate in 2016 of $466 and packages that feature the bespoke services of the new spa.

Dating from 1146 and set within a 1,730-acre medieval estate, LeDomaine is an historic abbey that was brought into the 21st century with a sensitively and imaginatively implemented restoration -- earning the property a Europa Nostra Award from the European Union for conserving cultural heritage. When the property opened March 22, 2012, it arrived on the Spanish tourism scene offering several firsts including becoming the country's first hotel to offer a complete butler service and the first Spanish establishment to be included in the prestigious Relais Châteaux guide

Imbued with the charm and lore of a by-gone age, Abadía Retuerta LeDomaine takes guests back in time while immersing them in the comforts and luxuries of today's most savvy hospitality. The medieval abbey and estate of LeDomaine is a grand travel experience that overwhelms the senses with its enduring history, stately architecture, majestic ambiance, world-class culinary experiences by one of Spain's celebrated chefs, acclaimed vineyards and 30 regal accommodations.

Almost a thousand years ago, the monks that inhabited Abadía Retuerta LeDomaine would gather around the refectory table to share the meager repasts that symbolized monastic life, while they listened to chants of the monk whose task was to turn the act of eating into an exercise in spirituality. Today the setting remains unchanged, but it now houses the Refectorio, where history and gastronomy -- the restaurant boasts One Michelin Star -- blend together to uplift and enrich the spirit. Under a 17th-century frieze depicting the Last Supper, guests enjoy a menu that fuses creative, contemporary twists on tradition with the wealth of high-quality, locally grown ingredients. Dishes are impeccably matched with wines of the Abadía Retuerta estate, home to some of the region's finest. Besides Refectorio, guests enjoy the tapas and small plates served at the hotel's Vinoteca wine cellar and the light, fresh cuisine served at Jardin del Claustro, the hotel's summer restaurant.

Abadía Retuerta LeDomaine has been a winery for nearly a millennium, but when it became a world-class estate hotel in 2012 it evolved into a gastronomy and wine tourism destination. Located in the heart of the Duero, one of Spain's leading wine areas, the medieval abbey estate is recognized for its award-winning single terroir wines. More than 500 acres of the estate are allocated to the vine, covering hillsides ranging as high as 2,800 feet before sloping down to the southern bank of the Duero River. There are 54 vine plots, or terroirs, that have very distinct characteristics, each analyzed, controlled, worked, vinified and tasted separately. It is also one of the most advanced wineries in Europe combining ancient wine-making traditions with cutting edge technology.
