Vancouver Convention Centre Achieves Gold AIPC Quality Standards Certification

The Vancouver Convention Centre has achieved AIPC (International Association of Congress Centres) Quality Standards certification in the gold level. This highest level of certification was awarded after successful completion of an audit by AIPC's designated external auditor.

The AIPC Quality Standards program was developed as an industry-specific certification for confirming and documenting a centre's accomplishments in key areas of convention centre performance, and is the only specifically purposed form of certification of its kind in the industry.

"We are thrilled to have earned the highest level of AIPC Quality Standards certification," said Ken Cretney, General Manager, Vancouver Convention Centre. "This international designation is a reflection of the commitment of our entire team to excellence in all areas of venue management and service delivery."

The program standards identified and audited 10 key areas, including Customer Service, Quality of Facilities and Operations, Employee Relations, Health, Safety, Security and Emergency Response, Financial Integrity, Community Relations, Environmental Responsibility, Industry Relations and Supplier Relations.

"The Vancouver Convention Centre is to be congratulated on having achieved the gold level in their audit as this demonstrates to colleagues, clients and other stakeholders that they are addressing international standards of performance in their management procedures," said AIPC President Edgar Hirt.

The only two-time winner of AIPC's APEX award for "World's Best Convention Centre," the Vancouver Convention Centre opened in July 1987 after originally serving as the Canada Pavilion at the World's Fair in 1986. Since inception, the facility has demonstrated a constant commitment to service, technical and culinary excellence, as well as environmental sustainability. In fact, the Centre's West building has received LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Platinum certification, and is the only convention centre in the world awarded the highest level of LEED designation. The Centre's two connected buildings offer a combined total of 466,500 square feet of pre-function, meeting, exhibition and ballroom space.
