Meeting Planners To Benefit From RNC Upgrades At Tampa Convention Center

To serve as the media operations center for the 2012 Republican National Convention (RNC), the Tampa Convention Center (TCC) completed 24 months of upgrades and renovations in advance of the event, which brought more than 50,000 people to the Tampa area. More than 15,000 media made the TCC their home during the weeklong event, breaking in and leaving behind a variety of improvements that will benefit future meetings held at the 600,000-square-foot, waterfront convention center.

"The RNC is over and the crowds have gone, but the millions of dollars worth of expansions, upgrades and improvements made at the Convention Center and throughout the destination remain," said Eric Blanc, CMP, Director of Sales and Marketing at the Tampa Convention Center. "Meeting planners and attendees from around the world will immediately benefit from these improvements."

Leading up to the event, the TCC created a new Fiber-Optic Infrastructure, made cellular network upgrades, and equipped all public areas with free Wi-Fi access on every floor of the facility. The center's video system was also converted from analog to digital, offering an infinite number of "channels" with high quality video footage.

As a direct result of the RNC, the TCC was also able to increase efforts for an aggressive green initiative, which includes joining the United States Green Building Council (USGBC), working to earn their LEED certification, expanding their recycling program and offering nine acres of energy-star-rated reflective roof covering.
