Board of Governors of Exhibition Place, Toronto Approves 2014-2016 Strategic Plan
|At today's board meeting, The Board of Governors of Exhibition Place approved a new strategic plan that builds on the successes of the previous 2009-2012 plan and positions Exhibition Place for the next three years. The 2014 -- 2016 Plan provides direction to guide the Board of Governors and staff in their actions and decisions having considered the input received from many stakeholders including; The Board of Governors of Exhibition Place, tenants, clients, community, general public and employees. |
The new strategic plan highlights transformational opportunities such as hosting the 2015 Pan/ParaPan American Games, opening of the new 400-room Hotel X, continued synergy with Ontario Place, inclusion with its surrounding community and potential expansion of exhibition & convention space. Also outlined, are 7 strategic goals which include Business Development, Public Space & Infrastructure, Environmental, Safety & Security, Recognition/Understanding, Organizational & Staffing and Financial.

The 2009-2012 Strategic Plan helped guide the organization over the past four years and during that time, Exhibition Place has had great success in its core businesses of entertainment and business stimulation. The facilities are almost fully leased, there has been continued private investment interest, and the landscape quality of the grounds is steadily improving. Significant achievements included the opening of the LEED Silver conference facility, Allstream Centre and the recognition of Exhibition Place as a leader in environmental stewardship.
With some 133 full-time employees and growing to 700 during major events, Exhibition Place is financially self-sufficient from the City's tax base, earning surpluses totaling approximately $11 million over the last four years (2009-2012).
Exhibition Place is Canada's largest entertainment venue, attracting over 5.3 million visitors a year. The 192-acre site is an integral component of Toronto and Ontario's economy, particularly with respect to conventions, sport, festivals, recreation, culture and tourism. Located at Exhibition Place is the award-winning Direct Energy Centre, Canada's largest exhibition and convention centre, and the Allstream Centre LEED Silver conference venue. Since 2004, Exhibition Place has undertaken an environmental stewardship initiative, entitled GREENSmart; which includes the promotion of sustainable development, environmental initiatives and leading edge green technologies and practices across the site.
