Major Outdoor Art Installations Coming To Vancouver, Canada For 2014 - 2016 Biennale
|Get your cameras ready: another round of major outdoor art installations is coming to Vancouver. Now underway, the third chapter of the Vancouver Biennale -- Open Borders/Crossroads Vancouver -- promises an unprecedented 18-month public program of contemporary art, new media, music and film. With each exhibition, the celebration brings works of public art to locations throughout Vancouver, transforming the city into an open-air museum. As part of the 2014 -- 2016 Biennale, some 30 sculptures will be installed in Vancouver and surrounding municipalities.|
The big news this year is the unveiling of a sculpture that's been crafted by China's most famous dissident, Ai WeiWei. Additional highlights include installations by art superstars Vik Muniz, Jonathan Borofsky, Lawrence Paul Yuxweluptun and Andy Goldsworthy, as well as a large-scale building mural by Os Gemeos. Oftentimes, these sculptures go on to become permanent icons on the Vancouver landscape. Past legacy examples include A-maze-ing Laughter (giant bronze men laughing near English Bay) and Engagement (large engagement rings perched above Sunset Beach). More than 100 local and international artists will participate in the 2014 -- 2016 exhibit through the Biennale's Open Air and Artist Residency programs.
