Las Vegas Continues Its Streak As No. 1 Trade Show Destination - 21 Consecutive Years at the Top

 Las Vegas comes of age as it is named the No. 1 trade show destination for the 21st consecutive year, according to the Trade Show News Network's (TSNN) "2014 TSNN Top 250 Trade Shows in the United States" list. Las Vegas hosted 60 of the largest shows held in the country last year, up from the 53 it hosted in 2013.

"We are proud to once again hold the rank of No. 1 trade show destination and we commend our resort partners for their commitment to the industry," said Rossi Ralenkotter, president/CEO of the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority (LVCVA). "Maintaining the top ranking is a testament to all of the hard working people who make Las Vegas a premier business destination and deliver on the brand promise that Vegas Means Business."

The coveted list by Trade Show News Network represents the largest 250 trade shows held in the country last year, ranked by net square footage. The 60 shows in Las Vegas encompassed 22.3 million net square feet, or 33% percent of the total space for all 250 shows. The two largest single shows were Conexpo-CON/AGG at 2.4 million net square feet, followed by International CES(r) at more than 2.1 million net square feet. Both of these shows were held in Las Vegas.

"It's no surprise that Las Vegas once again captured the No. 1 spot on the 2014 TSNN Top 250 Trade Show list," said TSNN President Rachel Wimberly. "With world-class convention facilities and services, combined with topnotch hotels, restaurants and entertainment, Las Vegas continues to attract the biggest shows in the U.S."

Las Vegas' two closest competitors are Orlando with 26 shows and Chicago hosting 24.

Even with more than two decades under its belt as the No. 1 trade show destination, Las Vegas works hard to maintain that ranking. The city that evolved to host people is always evolving to improve the experience and ensure its top ranking.

More than $9 billion in current and proposed development is on the books to add to the destination's appeal, including a 350,000-square-foot expansion of the Mandalay Bay Convention Center. In addition, the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority is progressing with its Las Vegas Global Business District project that will expand and renovate the Las Vegas Convention Center -- adding 750,000 square feet of exhibit space and 187,500 square feet of meeting space.

To recognize the importance of the meetings and convention industry in Las Vegas, and across the nation, the resort industry will be honoring North American Meetings Industry Day (NAMID) on Thursday, April 16. Meetings executives from across the city will participate in a rally at The LINQ promenade at 10:00 a.m. to show support for the Meetings Mean Business coalition.

The Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority (LVCVA) is charged with marketing Southern Nevada as a tourism and convention destination worldwide, and also with operating the Las Vegas Convention Center and Cashman Center.
