Maritime Marlin Travel One Of Canada's 50 Best Managed Private Companies
|Maritime Marlin Travel, a winner in the Canada's 50 Best Managed Private Companies Program in 1998, has requalified for 2000. Maritime Marlin Travel also requalified in 1999 and is the only representative of Canada's travel industry among Canada's 50 Best.|
"It's a tribute to the entire team's consistently high standards of business practice that Maritime Marlin has won this honour for the third year in a row," says Rob Dexter, Chairman and CEO, Maritime Marlin Travel. "It shows that working hard for customers pays off." During the past year, Maritime Marlin Travel has opened five branches and increased revenue by several million dollars.
Canada's 50 Best is designed to recognize companies that have excellent products or services, motivated employees, outstanding customer service and an excellent business strategy. The program is in its eighth year and is sponsored by Arthur Andersen, CIBC and the National Post. Maritime Marlin Travel began in 1949 with one shop and has grown into Atlantic Canada's largest Canadian-owned, privately held travel agency, with 65 offices throughout the region. (Maritime Marlin Travel also operates as LeGrow's Travel in Newfoundland and Voyages Viau in Quebec.)
"We have been vertically integrating to provide customers in eastern Canada with seamless service and travel products tailored for them," says Mr. Dexter. "During the past year, we have created our own air charter service, become our own tour wholesaler and air ticket consolidator, and brought our reservation service both in house and totally on line at our own call centre. Much of what we have been doing is visible to the customer only as better, faster and more cost-effective service."
The Canada's 50 Best award cites Maritime Marlin Travel award-winning practices as attracting and retaining the best people (staff turnover is negligible) and fostering a team approach to business, training, branch measurement, client communication and use of technology.
