Carlson Hospitality Worldwide Leads Travel Industry Recovery Initiative
|Carlson Hospitality Worldwide, along with parent Carlson Companies, Inc., are spearheading industry efforts to bring the economic plight of the travel and tourism industry into the congressional spotlight in Washington, D.C. Carlson Companies' Chair and CEO Marilyn Carlson Nelson, Carlson Hospitality Worldwide President and CEO Curtis Nelson and others have been calling on congressional leaders, meeting with presidential advisors, and testifying before Congress on behalf of the tourism and travel industry.|
The company is encouraging passage of the Travel America Now act, a bill that is crucial to the recovery of the travel and tourism industry.
Marilyn Carlson Nelson was scheduled to testify before the Senate Subcommittee on Consumer Affairs, Foreign Commerce and Tourism, and the Committee on Commerce, Science and Transportation. In her testimony, she was to outline the tremendous importance of the travel and tourism industry to the American economy, and review the damaging effects to the industry since Sept. 11. Nelson will also share statistics from the Travel Industry Association of America (TIA), on whose behalf she is testifying, which shows that 20 million - or one in 17 American jobs - is directly related to travel and tourism. The industry creates $100 billion in tax revenues annually.
Curtis Nelson is spearheading efforts in the hotel industry as a CEO member of the American Hotel & Lodging Association (AH&LA) Kitchen Cabinet, a leadership group of hotel industry executives who are focusing on recovery efforts. This group is addressing initiatives to re-energize the travel industry and seek out new strategies to respond to the industry crisis. Curtis Nelson is also a member of the Travel Business Roundtable and is working to support this organization in its recovery strategy.
