Toronto Travel Agents Visit Aruba On WestJet Inaugural Flight

The Aruba Tourism Authority celebrated the new WestJet non-stop flight to the One happy island, which launched on May 6 with a familiarization trip organized for Toronto-based travel agents. The new service, operating once weekly on Sundays, departs Toronto at 9:00 am and arrives in Aruba at 1:53 pm. The return flight leaves Aruba at 2:45 pm and arrives in Toronto at 7:53 pm.

A group of 10 retail travel agents from the greater Toronto area, including six that have recently completed Aruba's Certified Expert (ACE) program, visited the island May 6 -- May 13 to experience its wonderful beaches, variety of activities and fine dining. The group was hosted by the Aruba Westin Resort for three nights and the Occidental Grand for four nights.

Activities for the group included a jeep tour which ended at Baby Beach, a visit to the DePalm Island, a snorkel sail on the Palm Pleasure, as well as shopping in downtown Oranjestad. At night, the agents experienced the weekly Carubbian Festival in San Nicolas and then Aruba by night through the famous party bus, Kuku Kunukoo.

During their free time, some of the agents relaxed with a spa treatment at the Orchid Spa at Brickell Bay.

"I have learned so much on this trip," said Karin Knight of Verstraete Travel & Cruises. "There is so much to offer and the interaction with local Aruban hospitality was truly memorable."
